The first trimester continued

As stated previously, the first trimester, though coupled with a few mishaps, was blissful!

There were a few negatives though, and on top of the list is my fingers, face, nose and lips swelling TF up and hyper-pigmentation from those very early days. I’m beautiful and I know it, but pregnancy turned me into the ugliest duckling on this planet (laughs in ‘oksalayo muhle utoothless bear wami’), and because the pregnancy was our little secret, I kept hoping that people on my social media wouldn’t notice the puffy face.

I was also extremely bloated at some point and when that bloat went away, I couldn’t stop my farts from coming out for weeks, lol! I sincerely apologise to my husband for having to sit through those because on some days, I too would lowkey die from the smell, kodwa isoja lifela empini, so I maintained my straight face.

Another negative for me was the constant pelvic pain I had from my uterus expanding as the embryo grew into a fetus and so forth – this was the most challenging and took a huge toll on my mental and emotional wellbeing because, as mentioned in the previous blog, I was constantly anxious and praying to God, the universe and my ancestors that this be a sticky baby and I should carry to term. One Saturday afternoon, we went to the ER at the hospital I birthed at because the pelvic pain got so bad – I was convinced that I’m miscarrying again. Turns out it was just round ligament pain (joke is on me).

On a more positive note, I learned how to make buffalo wings and blue-cheese dip like a champ because that’s all I ever craved for in the first trimester! Do you even know how exciting it is to be able to make really good buffalo wings? When those flavours hit all the correct tastebuds? I even cried one evening cause those buffalo wings were that good.

I had no morning sickness or nausea, and only threw-up a few times, but that was just from taking the my supplements at the wrong time of day and drinking tap water (that’s a story for another day).

I also got to appreciate being a housewife, and have a new found respect for women that work fulltime while pregnant, because that first trimester fatigue slaps different!

I would literally spend 75% of my day sleeping while the other 25% was dedicated to eating everything I could lay my hands on – I’m still trying to figure out how I kept losing weight instead of gaining, but I praise the Lord for being good to me kuleyo ndawo. Amen bazalwane!

Overall, first trimester gets an 8 out of 10 from me, and I would do it again in a heartbreat.

DON’T FORGET TO WASH YOUR HANDS, SANITIZE, WEAR YOUR MASK and STAY HOME IF IT’S NOT ESSENTIAL. Till next time – Ta!
